This Independence Day, we saw two big films - Akshay Kumar's Mission Mangal and John Abraham's Batla House, clash at the box office. Both movies got a good start at the ticket windows. Mission Mangal earned Rs 29.16 crore while Batla House managed to rake in Rs 14.59 crore. The John Abraham starrer could have earned more on day 1 but since the movie got a delayed-release in few centres. Batla House's collection fell short of Rs 2-3 crore as per expectations. Nevertheless, Batla House had a decent opening at the box office. And in fact, it is being lauded by critics and viewers alike.
On day 2 at the box office, Batla House has earned Rs 8. 84 crore. Needless to say, the numbers are low as compared to day 1 collection, considering it was a normal weekday. The total collection of Batla House now stands at Rs 24.39 crore.
For the ones unaware, Nikkhil Advani's Batla House is inspired by the Batla House encounter case that took place in 2008. The film sheds light on the encounter and its aftermath, along with Sanjay Kumar's struggle to prove the encounter wasn't a fake one while dealing with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.
John Abraham plays the role of a police officer, Sanjay Kumar, who had a crucial role in this encounter. The movie also stars Mrunal Thakur, Nora Fatehi, Ravi Kishan, Rajesh Sharma, Sonam Arora, Manish Chaudhari, Faisan Khan, Alok Pandey, Chirag Katrecha among many others.
Our critic, Susri Sahu, gave three stars to Batla House and wrote, "The film grabs you by the scruff of your neck and forces you to see the grim reality of communal disharmony and the riots that it births. With gripping action sequences and nail-biting fight-offs, John Abraham's muscle power speaks its own language. His stoicism can be easily branded as effortless. The highlight is that film also scratches the surface of the -traumatic disorder as John's character struggles with a bullet that didn't kill him."
