This Friday will see the release of two Bollywood releases – Mardaani 2 and The Body. While one is a murder mystery, the other is a cop drama. Let’s have a look at the prospects of both of them.
After the first part, where Police officer Shivani Shivaji Roy fought against human trafficking, this time, she will go against a young serial rapist and murderer, who strikes terror throughout the city he prowls. The mystery of who the guy is and how she nabs him, forms the crux of the story.
Mardaani 2 has the goodwill of its first part and that will hugely impact its box office numbers. Mardaani was a hit and has people still remember it. Not to forget, the trailer of Mardaani 2 also gained a great response. One other thing that can go in the favour of the film is that Rani Mukerji’s past two films – Mardaani and Hichki were hits. So it should open with a figure of 4-4.5 crore on the first day, depending on the number of screens. On the other hand, The Body is a remake of the Spanish film by the same name. It is a murder mystery, revolving around how a husband tries killing his wife while a police officer who’s inspecting the murder can’t find his wife’s cadaver, sending the audience on a roller-coaster of twists, begging the question whether the wife is dead or alive. The film doesn’t have a lot of buzz and will have to rely on its content and word of mouth. Thrillers seem to be director Jeetu Joseph’s comfort zone, so the film is expected to have good content. Emraan Hashmi’s last theatrical release, Why Cheat India was a flop and that might affect The Body’s collections. The film is expected to collect 1.50 to 1.75 crore at the box office on its opening day.
