Marvel's latest offering, Black Panther, has been unstoppable at the box office ever since it released on February 16. And even after breaking several records in the American, Indian and worldwide markets; the superhero movie continued its blockbuster run in the third weekend too. According to Rotten Tomatoes, the film ended the Oscar weekend on a high, raking in $65.70 million at the American box office, to take its 17-day box office tally to $501.10 million. With that, Black Panther not only crossed the $500 mark in USA, but also became the third fastest in doing so.
If you check the box office run of all the top grossing movies in the country, you will realise that Star Wars: The Force Awakens raked in $500 million in just 10 days and is currently the fastest one to achieve this feat. Star Wars: The Last Jedi comes in second place after it achieved this feat in 16 days. And now, Black Panther and Jurassic World are tied in third, after they both raked in $500 million in just 17 days. But we have to say that Black Panther has managed to rake in such a huge amount in USA even without major holidays helping it. All the other three films had got a boost from the holiday season or school holiday period. Black Panther has managed to achieve such a huge amount courtesy the fantastic pre release buzz, the massive anticipation for this new franchise, the strong content and the large screen space.
