Marvel's Black Panther has set the cash registers ringing ever since it released worldwide on February 16. With fantastic reviews flowing in for the movie, the superhero film went on a record breaking spree at the box office, raking in the moolah at the American, Indian and the international markets. In America, the Marvel movie started off with a bang, collecting $25.20 million through the Thursday paid previews and $75.80 million on day 1 (Friday). The film sustained well and grew in terms of footfalls and collections over the weekend, raking in a total amount of $202 million in USA, according to Box Office Mojo. Though this is an insanely huge number and the movie has broken several records already, Black Panther could not beat one particular feat.
The Avengers (2012) has been Marvel's highest opening weekend grosser in America since a few years now. However, as soon as Black Panther hit the screens and started raking in the moolah, box office estimates predicted that it might just be able to break this record. However, after collecting $202 million, Black Panther has failed to beat The Avengers ($207 million) at the American box office by the slightest of margins. But still, Black Panther has managed to become Marvel's 2nd highest opening weekend grosser ever. Considering that it is the debut film for this standalone superhero franchise, this is a huge achievement. What do you guys have to say about this new feat?
