Irrfan Khan and Kirti Kulhari-starrer Blackmail has been in the news, thanks to its quirky trailer and upbeat songs. The film is all set to hit the screens tomorrow and primarily being a multiplex targeted venture, we are not expecting it to open with big numbers on its first day. Despite having a decent amount of 1550 screens nationwide, Blackmail is expected to earn around Rs 2.50 crore on its opening day.
The film has received rave reviews from the critics, but it totally depends on whether it appeals to the audience or not. If it clicks with the movie buffs, we might see an escalation in the evening and night shows. The positive word of mouth may turn Blackmail into a surprise hit just like it happened during Hindi Medium in the last year. Interestingly, Irrfan Khan's Hindi Medium which released yesterday in China, has opened to a phenomenal response at the box office. In fact, the film has beaten the first day collections of Bollywood biggies like Dangal and Bajrangi Bhaijaan there.
Coming back to Blackmail, the film depicts the life of a middle-aged married-man stuck in a full day job and unexciting life, but things turn after he finds that his wife is having an extramarital affair. Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan, who saw the film in a special screening praised the film by tweeting, "Saw a delightful film today 'Blackmail'. Brilliant screenplay, unique story, exemplary performances and great presentation and editing. Actors excel from Irrfan Khan to some fresh new faces. So happy to see such creativity." Directed by Abhinay Deo, Blackmail also features Divya Dutta, Arunoday Singh, Omi Vaidya, Anuja Sathe, Pradhuman Singh Mall and Gajraj Rao in pivotal roles.
