Half the year has gone by and if we take stock of Bollywood releases in the first six months of 2019, there has sure been some great and entertaining content, which received massive rewards in the form of huge collections at the box office. While the star power continued to attract footfalls in cinema halls, several small-budget films with strong content surprised the audience. Bollywood earned moolah over Rs 1900 crore in its first quarter and for number buffs we have divided the box office analysis into three parts and here they are:
Vicky Kaushal's Uri: The Surgical Strike and Shahid Kapoor's Kabir Singh are ruling the roost here. Well, no one would have thought that these moderate budget films, being non-holiday releases, will set the box office on fire. Both the ventures crossed Rs 200 crore and emerged as game-changers for its lead actors.
Films like Kesari, Total Dhamaal, Bharat, Luka Chuppi, Badla, De De Pyaar De, The Tashkent Files, Gully Boy and Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi have made it to the hit list. Some of them surpassed our expectations while others fetched a mixed response, but going by the budget and earnings, these films emerged as money-spinners.
Well, we have many films in this list which includes Kalank, Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga, Sonchiriya, Photograph, Notebook and many others. Out of these, Kalank surprised everyone as the expectations were sky-high but the drama failed to impress the audience and emerged as the first flop of Varun Dhawan's career.
In the second half of 2019, we are excited with the line-up of releases which includes - Super 30, Judgemental Hai Kya, Jabariya Jodi, Saaho, Batla House, Mission Mangal, Dabangg 3 and many others.
