Mumbai Saga's big box office jump on Sunday is coming across more and more as a flash in the pan with each passing day. After a lackluster start, the John Abraham and Emraan Hashmi starrer failed to make an impression right through its first week other than its Sunday haul, and now, as per our well-placed source in the trade, has witnessed a larger than expected drop on its second Friday, bringing in merely Rs. 75 lakh nett on day 9, taking its total to just Rs. 14.18 crore nett after nine days at the box office.
Even if you were to factor in COVID-19 restrictions, lockdown in a few areas in Maharashtra and Punjab, and night curfews in more than a few areas, the Sanjay Gupta directorial still underperformed at the box office according to our source, who informs that despite all the hurdles, Mumbai Saga should have hitherto collected at least 25% more, especially considering how Roohi, with a smaller budget and cast performed during the same phase. Check out the day-wise box office collection of Mumbai Saga below:
Mumbai Saga day-wise breakup:
Day 1 (Friday): Rs. 2.82 crore nett
Day 2 (Saturday): Rs. 2.40 crore nett
Day 3 (Sunday): Rs. 3.52 crore nett
Day 4 (Monday): Rs. 1.49 crore nett
Day 5 (Tuesday): Rs. 1.47 crore nett
Day 6 (Wednesday): Rs. 90 lakh nett
Day 7 (Thursday): Rs. 83 lakh nett
Day 8 (2nd Friday): Rs. 75 lakh nett
Total (8 days): Rs. 14.18 crore nett
Despite all the restrictions in place, Mumbai Saga should've registered better box office numbers to have at least finished with some respectability like Roohi when the circumstances are put into perspective. The John Abraham and Emraan Hashmi starrer is now going to end up with a lifetime collection way below the Rajkumamr Rao, Janhvi Kapoor and Varun Sharma starrer, and that paints the entire picture.
