The big jump on Sunday that Mumbai Saga witnessed at the box office proved to be no more than a false dawn as the movie hardly made any inroads post that. Keeping the new COVID-19 restrictions, lockdown in a few areas in Maharashtra and Punjab, and night curfews in more than a few areas, the John Abraham and Emraan Hashmi starrer has still underperformed at the box office according to our well-placed trade source, who informs that after figuring in all the obstacles, Mumbai Saga should have collected at least 25% more than its week one haul of Rs. 13.40 crore nett, similar to how Roohi had performed a couple of weeks ago. Check out the day-wise box office collection of the Sanjay Gupta directorial below:
Mumbai Saga day-wise breakup:
Day 1 (Friday): Rs. 2.82 crore nett
Day 2 (Saturday): Rs. 2.40 crore nett
Day 3 (Sunday): Rs. 3.52 crore nett
Day 4 (Monday): Rs. 1.49 crore nett
Day 5 (Tuesday): Rs. 1.47 crore nett
Day 6 (Wednesday): Rs. 90 lakh nett
Day 7 (Thursday): Rs. 83 lakh nett
Total (1st Week): Rs. 13.43 crore nett
Mumbai Saga got off to a slow start at the box office over its first two days, but sprang a huge surprise on Sunday, especially in Maharashtra, with no less than a 50% jump, offering hope that the coming days could pull the crime film to a reasonably respectable box office figure as we had seen with Roohi, where the final number could be taken into perspective given the surge in coronavirus cases across the country and new ensuing restrictions. Alas, it was not to be as the John Abraha and Emraan Hashmi starrer dropped rapidly over the weekdays, and is now expected to finish much below what Roohi had collected with a smaller star cast and lesser budget.
