Another Bollywood movie has released and bitten the dust at the box office on day one itself. We're talking about Saina, which has taken a disastrous start in theatres, registering near nil footfalls in all shows across the country. There was little to no buzz for the Parineeti Chopra starrer right from the time the teaser was dropped, with the trailer doing it no favours either, and the writing is pretty much on the wall for the Saina Nehwal biopic right from day one itself, with the film bringing in a paltry Rs. 25 lakh nett at the box office, unless the movie does a miraculous turnaround today, which is nigh impossible. The makers may try to peddle the second wave of the coronavirus as an excuse for the dismal turnout, citing reason like lockdown being in effect in certain areas in Maharashtra and the North, with 50% occupancy and night curfews being implemented in more than a few areas (though Mumbai's night curfew begins from tomorrow, Sunday, 28th March), but the fact of the matter is after taking all these factors into consideration, Saina should've at least collected 400% or even 500% more than its day one box office collection. Mumbai Saga has collected 200% more than Saina on day eight, with not even half as good reviews as those that streamed in for the Amole Gupte directorial from the press shows, which puts the woes of the film completely into perspective. And just look at how Godzilla vs. Kong is performing at the box office, with the Hindi belt also contributing despite its major business coming from the South. Saina now becomes another in a prolonged list of commercial failures for leading lady Parineeti Chopra. At least she can take solace in the fact that this is a critical success for her after some time.
