Hollywood is definitely turning India into a huge market and we have to say that it is a wake-up call for Bollywood filmmakers that they better should come up with unique content to engage the audience. Earlier Avengers: Endgame and Captain Marvel did phenomenal business at the ticket windows but in July, Hollywood completely overshadowed Bollywood thanks to Spider-Man: Far From Home and The Lion King. While the crawling Marvel superhero raked in over Rs 85 crore in its theatrical run, Disney's live-action has crossed the Rs 125 crore mark and is still going strong in the domestic market. The Lion King benefitted massively because of its Hindi dubbed version included big names like Shah Rukh Khan, Aryan Khan, Shreyas Talpade, Ashish Vidyarthi and Asrani. Going by the current trend, we are sure that The Lion King will enter the Rs 150 crore club by the end of its third week at the box office.
Hrithik Roshan's Super 30 turned out to be the only saving grace for Bollywood, as it managed to emerge as a hit in the domestic market. The biographical educational drama has crossed Rs 130 crore in three weeks and is expected to end its theatrical run with around Rs 140 crore, making it the sixth-highest Bollywood grosser of 2019, after Kabir Singh, Uri: The Surgical Strike, Bharat, Kesari and Total Dhamaal. On the other hand, Kangana Ranaut and Rajkummar Rao's Judgementall Hai Kya is turning out to be an average affair with the business just over Rs 30 crore in its first week.
Apart from these two films, other Bollywood ventures like Arjun Patiala, Malaal, Hume Tumse Pyaar Kitna, One Day: Justice Delivered, Marudhar Express, Jhootha Kahin Ka and Family of Thakurganj faced rejection from the audience.
We are hopeful that August will be a better month for Bollywood with promising with films like Jabariya Jodi, Batla House, Mission Mangal, Chhichhore, Made In China and Saaho releasing at the box office.
