Did the Southern superstar hamper Bollywood's mega star's fate at the box office?
Amitabh Bachchan's much awaited Bhoothnath Returns failed to sizzle at the box office on its opening day, however trade pundits predict that the film's collection will see a rise soon thanks to the friendly ghost and Parth Bhalerao's performance getting a thumbs up from the critics. Trade experts also suggest that the film was affected due to big Southern releases like Ram Charan Teja' Race Gurram and Vishal's Naan Sigappu Manithan and that's not it the film faced stiff competition from Hollywood too with Rio 2, Oculus that hit the theatres on Friday April 11. Taran Adarsh has cited the total collection for Bhoothnath Returns on his Twitter page, he said, "BhoothnathReturns Fri 4.07 cr, Sat 5.85 cr, Sun 8.10 cr. Total: ₹ 18.02 cr nett. India biz... Excellent growth over the weekend." He also added in his trade review, "The business of Bhoothnath Returns witnessed ample growth on Saturday. Sunday too witnessed a similar trend, with the business growing manifold in every circuit. In view of the fact that the film had a lackluster start on Friday morning, the weekend total of Bhoothnath Returns can be termed more than satisfactory."
Rio 2 on the other hand hit a decent mark with Rs 4 crore over the weekend, which the makers claim is the third biggest opening for a Hollywood film this year.
With so much competition for Big B's Bhoothnath Returns, we wonder what would be the fate of this movie had Rajinikanth's Kochadaiiyaan hit the theatres on the same day as per the earlier schedule.
