Director Taika Waititi's Thor: Ragnarok is the recent example of Hollywood's dominance over Bollywood at the box office. Post crushing Sidharth Malhotra's murder mystery over the first weekend, Chris Hemsworth's superhero Marvel flick continued to dominate over Ittefaq on its first Monday. While the Sidharth-Sonakshi Sinha film raked in Rs 2.25 crore, Thor: Ragnarok collected Rs 4.10 crore yesterday. Coming to the total business, Ittefaq stands with the grand collection of Rs 18.30 crore, whereas Thor: Ragnarok stands with the whopping business of Rs 31.76 crore. The third installment of Thor has defeated Ittefaq by a huge margin of Rs 13.46 crore.
Marvel's Thor: Ragnarok and Dharma's Ittefaq locked horns on last Friday at the box office. Both films had opened with around 30 percent occupancy in the morning shows, but Thor was slightly better. While Thor: Ragnarok received a wide release with approximately 1500 screens, Ittefaq got a limited release with just around 800 screens. Though both the films received positive reviews, Thor: Ragnarok became the first choice for moviegoers.
Sidharth Malhotra and Akshaye Khanna-starrer Ittefaq received a below average response due to its niche appeal, while Thor: Ragnarok got a great response due to its huge fan base in the country. By looking at the current trend, we can expect that Thor will continue to dominate at the Indian box office. Since next week small films like Qarib Qarib Singlle and Shaadi Main Zaroor Aana are hitting the screens, Thor: Ragnarok is expected to sustain well in its second week too.
