Disney's The Lion King continued its dominance in its second weekend at the box office. While the film is set to enter the 1billion club at the global market, the photo-realistic film has grabbed the top spot in Chennai circuit crushing biggies like A1, Vijay Deverakonda's Dear Comrade and Chiyaan Vikram's Kadaram Kondan. Hollywood has always played an upper-hand in the southern market and The Lion King is the latest example of that.
The Lion King opened in India across 2,140 screens in English, Hindi, Tamil and Telugu. The film is director Jon Favreau's recreation of the 1994 Disney classic by the same name, and it brings back the adventures of Simba, the lion cub who is to succeed his father Mufasa as King of the Pride Lands. Favreau's film updates the classic tale with photo-realistic and computer-generated animation. The filmmaker had earlier helmed the 2016 global blockbuster, The Jungle Book.
Despite receiving mixed reviews, the film has received a huge thumbs up from the audience. Our critic, Urmimala Banerjee gave the film 2.5 stars and wrote, "Despite the drawbacks, The Lion King entertains in it's run time. It is the perfect family film. Watch it to revive some golden childhood memories." Anyway, have you liked the live-action film? Tweet to us @bollywood_life.
