While a big budget Bollywood film, Kalank tanked badly at the ticket windows, filmmaker Vivek Agnihotri's The Tashkent Files enjoyed a phenomenal second weekend despite facing competition from the Hollywood biggie Avengers: Endgame at the ticket windows. In fact, the film has collected more in its second-weekend compared its first one. After, Vicky Kaushal's Uri: The Surgical Strike, it has become the second film to achieve this special feat. The film raked in Rs 2 crore in its third weekend and now stands with the grand total of Rs 9.72 crore.
The film, which is based on the mysterious death of India's second PM late Lal Bahadur Shastri, is directed by Vivek Agnihotri, who previously helmed films like Chocolate, Buddha in a Traffic Jam and Junooniyat among many others.
alking about the film, actress Pallavi Joshi, who plays one of the key characters in film had said, "We always celebrate the contribution of (Mahatma) Gandhi and (Jawaharlal) Nehru which is great. But shall we ignore the contribution and sacrifice of Gopal Krishna Gokhale, Lokmanya Tilak) and many of them, who played an important part in India's freedom movement? I think since we are taught that two individuals are responsible for India's independence, our earlier generations never questioned them critically. But questioning important matters is a common practice in a democracy."
Pallavi elaborated her character and added, "She is the nastiest woman I have ever played. She is one of those historians, who comes from a family of Nawabs and is decorated by the government. She believes that she has the right to write on people the way she wants and people around her are inferior. She is dark, she is arrogant and I really had a great time performing such a character."
Produced under the banner of SP CineCorp and Vivek Agnihotri Creates, The Tashkent Files also stars Shweta Basu, Pankaj Tripathi, Vinay Pathak, Mandira Bedi, Ankur Rathee and Prakash Belawadi in key roles. Anyway, have you liked the film? Tweet to us @Bollywood_life
