Despite garnering rave reviews from critics, Dibakar Banerjee's latest directorial venture hasn't really raked in big moolah at the box office...
Last Friday, Sushant Singh Rajput starrer Detective Byomkesh Bakshy! hit the screens and though it managed to impress the critics big time, at the box office it failed to pack a solid punch. The film fared decently at the ticket windows on day 1 and ended up collecting Rs 4.20 crore. The scenario was pretty much the same on day 2 as Dibakar Banerjee directorial minted Rs 4.50 crore on Saturday. However, on Sunday the collections were much better as Sushant starrer earned Rs 5.36 crore at the domestic box office thus bringing its opening weekend collection to Rs 14.06 crore.
Film critic and trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted the updated figures a while back. He wrote on the popular social networking site Twitter, "#DetectiveByomkeshBakshy Fri 4.20 cr, Sat 4.50 cr, Sun 5.36 cr. Total - 14.06 cr. India biz."
Trade portal Boxofficeindia reported, "Detective Byomkesh Bakshy had a poor weekend as it grossed around 14.25 crore nett. The writing was on the wall on day one as the collections were not high enough for a holiday and Saturday remained pretty flat. Sunday was better with 20% growth and business in the 5.50 crore nett range."
Apart from Detective Byomkesh Bakshy!, Hollywood action thriller Furious 7 also released last week. The film got off to a flying start and ended up becoming the highest opener of 2015 in India. While late Paul Walker and Vin Diesel starrer is still going strong at the BO, the film has certainly affected the business of Sushant's mystery flick!
