Ek Villain Returns box office collection day 2: John Abraham, Disha Patani, Arjun Kapoor starrer jumps better than Shamshera did; jilted lovers thronging tier 2-3 centres

Ek Villain Returns has released today, 29th July, in theatres worldwide. The Mohit Suri directorial revolves around rich brat Gautam (Arjun Kapoor) tricks struggling singer Aarvi (Tara Sutaria) into falling for him to exact revenge for a viral prank, only to later have a change of heart, but things turn sideways when Bhairav (John Abraham) and Rasika (Disha Patani) enter the fray. John Abraham, Disha Patani, Arjun Kapoor and Tara Sutaria starrer Ek Villain Returns took a much better than expected start at the box office day 1 and its spike on day 2 shows that the opening was no flash in the pan.

Ek Villain Returns box office collection day 1

Given the controlled budget, star cast and lower expectations of Ek Villain Returns, the opening was more than decent when taking ratios, potential profit margins, the current scenario and where the movie can go from hereon into account. The John Abraham, Disha Patani, Arjun Kapoor, Tara Sutaria starrer brought in ₹7 crore nett on day 1, largely down to the goodwill that the first part – also helmed by Director Mohit Suri – still holds for the audience. The music also seems to have worked on some superficial level. Of course, it's theaters outside prime metro multiplexes that are clocking major numbers till now.

Ek Villain Returns has shown a marginal spike, collecting ₹7.40 crore nett on day 2 but it's enough to raise hope and keep the Mohit Suri directorial in the running. Report from the trade inform us that Ek Villain Returns could be the shock sleeper hit of the year. The whole trade expected the film to crash on Saturday, but the collections are even better than day 1. It's working like fire in tier 2 and 3 centers, with all jilted lovers or rather rejected lovers thronging single screens and small-town multiplexes, cheering loudly at the most misogynistic scenes, especially where the attacks of women are being justified and on Arjun's mock-rape scene. All eyes now on Sunday and the weekdays.
