Godzilla vs. Kong has completed a fantastic first weekend at the box office, but as good as the collections are given the circumstance, the movie would have would've probably ended with Rs. 50-55 crore nett had the situations been normal, given that most of the theatres across Maharastra, Delhi, NCR and East Punjab territories are not only reeling from the effects of reinforced lockdowns and night curfews, but even many in the South, where the major business has come from, are operating at 50% capacity. Moreover, given that Godzilla vs. Kong again saw a big jump on day four, Saturday, followed by another decent spike on day five, Sunday, brining in Rs. 6.52 crore nett, and taking its extended 5-day weekend haul to Rs. 28.96 crore nett, there's almost no question that the it'd have almost double what it has till date had it released during any other phase.
Godzilla vs. Kong day-wise breakup:
Day 1 (Wednesday): Rs. 6.40 crore nett
Day 2 (Thursday): Rs. 5.40 crore nett
Day 3 (Friday): Rs. 4.22 crore nett
Day 4 (Saturday): Rs. 6.42 crore nett
Day 5 (Sunday): Rs. 6.52 crore nett
Total (5-day Extended Weekend): Rs. 28.96 crore nett
Considering all the extraneous factors affecting film business these days, Godzilla vs. Kong has recorded excellent numbers in Tamil Nadu, Nizam and Andhra Pradesh territories, with more-than-good figures coming in from Kerala, Karnataka and Mysore circuits. To put the pandemic scenario into perspective though, the movie has ended up collecting less than Roohi in the North belt over its first five days despite starting on a better note owing to how drastically the COVID-19 scenario has changed in the past week.
However, the collections are still better than Mumbai Saga and Saina at the moment as the earlier hasn't been received well by the audience and the latter has been flat out rejected. All said and done, Godzilla vs. Kong would have almost certainly collected Rs.80-100 crore nett during its lifetime run had it not had to deal with the second wave of coronavirus and its aftermath.
