While the second wave of COVID-19 has affected the entertainment industry in Mumbai to a major extent, south films continue to rake in moolah at their respective markets. Pawan Kalyan's Vakeel Saab, which released in the last weekend and turned out to be biggest opener (Indian film ) of the year beating Thalapathy Vijay's Master, has put up a massive total in its first weekend. After earning Rs 38 crore (net) on its first day, the courtroom drama witnessed a regular drop on its second day and raked in Rs 17 crore. Yesterday, the film maintained the same pace and collected around Rs 18 crore. It currently stands with grand total of Rs 73 crore and will soon enter the Rs 100 crore at the domestic market.
Jointly produced by Dil Raju and Boney Kapoor under Sri Venkateswara Creations and Bay View Projects LLP, the film is the official remake of 2016 film Pink, which featured Amitabh Bachchan along with Taapsee Pannu, Andrea Tariang, Angad Bedi, Tushar Pandey, Piyush Mishra, and Dhritiman Chatterjee in pivotal roles. In fact, Pink was remade in Tamil in 2019 as Nerkonda Paarvai, which starred Ajith Kumar, Shraddha Srinath, Abhirami Venkatachalam, Andrea Tariang, Arjun Chidambaram, Adhik Ravichandran, Aswin Rao, Rangaraj Pandey, Sujith Shankar, Delhi Ganesh, Jayaprakash and others.
Vakeel Saab is directed by Sriram Venu of MCA (Middle Class Abbayi) fame. The film also features Shruti Haasan, Prakash Raj, Nivetha Thomas, Anjali, Ananya Nagalla, Mukesh Rishi, Dev Gill, Subbaraju, Vamsi Krishna and Anasuya Bharadwaj in pivotal roles. The music of the film is composed by S Thaman and the cinematography is done by PS Vinod while the editing department is headed by Prawin Pudi.
