Gold has turned out to be a huge money-spinner for the Khiladi of Bollywood Akshay Kumar. With the humongous collections of Rs 71.30 crore, the historical sports drama has turned out to be the highest opening weekend grosser of Akshay. Though we can't deny the fact that Gold had an advantage of having a 5 day weekend unlike his previous films, which had regular three days but it also faced a stiff competition from John Abraham's Satyameva Jayate, which released on the same date.
Here's the list of Akshay's top 10 opening weekend grossers:
Gold - Rs 71.30 crore
Singh Is Bliing - Rs 54.44 crore
Housefull 3 - Rs 53.31 crore
Brothers - Rs 52.08 crore
Toilet: Ek Prem Katha - Rs 51.45 crore
Jolly LLB 2 - Rs 50.46 crore
Rustom - Rs 50.42 crore
Rowdy Rathore - Rs 48.05 crore
Airlift - Rs 44.30 crore
Boss - Rs 42.50 crore
Looking at the current scenario, we are expecting the film to soon enter the Rs 100 crore club at the box office. It will be Akshay's eighth film to achieve this feat after Housefull 2, Rowdy Rathore, Holiday, Jolly LLB 2, Housefull 3, Toilet: Ek Prem Katha and Airlift. The positive word of mouth will definitely help Gold to hold well in the weekdays.
Gold is directed by Talaash helmer Reema Kagti and produced by Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani under the banner of Excel Entertainment. It also stars Mouni Roy, Kunal Kapoor, Amit Sadh, Vineet Kumar Singh and Sunny Kaushal in key roles. Anyway, have you liked the film? Tweet to us @Bollywood_Life.
