Rohit Shetty's Golmaal Again seems to be unstoppable at the box office. After becoming the highest opening weekend grosser of 2017, the horror-comedy refused to slow down at the ticket windows. The film registered a good jump over its second weekend and crossed the Rs 167 crore mark in just 10 days. Trade analyst, Taran Adarsh, tweeted the official figures, writing, "#GolmaalAgain is SUPER-STRONG... Continues to dominate... [Week 2] Fri 7.25 cr, Sat 10.61 cr, Sun 13.58 cr. Total: ₹ 167.52 cr. India biz." It has already become 2017's highest Bollywood grosser.
The fourth installment of the Golmaal franchise has shattered the records of many biggies like Raees, Judwaa 2 and Toilet - Ek Prem Katha. The film has also turned out to be Ajay Devgn's highest grossers of all time surpassing the business of Singham Returns, which was Rs 140.62 crore. Despite featuring the huge cast of Arshad Warsi, Tusshar Kapoor, Shreyas Talpade, Kunal Kemmu, Parineeti Chopra and Tabu, Rohit Shetty managed to lend a different comic element to each of his characters. Though the film clashed with Aamir Khan's Secret Superstar, the film has emerged to be the first choice for moviegoers.
The film is expected to remain steady in the weekdays and enter the Rs 200 crore club. Sidharth Malhotra and Sonakshi Sinha's Ittefaq is set to hit the screens this Friday but since the buzz around the film is not up to the mark, the thriller might not impact the business of Golmaal Again. But Chris Hemsworth-starrer Thor: Ragnarok, which has a good fan following in India, might give a tough fight to this comic caper flick.
