Sajid Khan’s so-called ‘entertainer’ has failed to live up to its gigantic expectations and earned only Rs 44.89 crores in its first week
Considering the opening weekend’s poor collections of the Ajay Devgn-Tamannaah starrer Himmatwala, the box office fate of the film was quite evident. The audiences and the industry walas have given their verdict - what with the Sajid Khan film performing below the mark at major metropolitan cities and earning Rs 45 crores approximately in its first week. Ideally, this should have been the collections of the first weekend, right Sajid?
Trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted, “Himmatwala has been rejected. In view of the fact that UTV had given the film a wide release, the opening weekend was way below the mark... shockingly low for a biggie in fact. The biz on weekdays continued to go downhill, which clearly indicates the lack of mandate for this keenly-anticipated film. While the business in mass-dominated circuits (dominated by single screens) was slightly better, the performance at plexes, generally, was terrible. Collected approximately Rs 44.89 crores nett in week one.”
“Himmatwala was received with diversely contrasting reactions. While the multiplexes rejected it outright, single screens supported the film to an extent and that enabled the film to reach the first week total that it has come to,” informed leading exhibitor-distributor Akshaye Rathi and he feels David Dhawan’s Chashme Baddoor will affect the already poor earnings of Himmatwala. “The good buzz that Chashme Baddoor has generated will only make things worse for Himmatwala, both in terms of the screen space/shows at multiplexes as well as diverting the audience that could have watched Himmatwala in the second week had Chashme Baddoor not been releasing today.”
Unfortunately for Sajid Khan and all those who were expecting the film to cross the Rs 100 crore-mark – the word of mouth has turned out to be even more killing. Watch this space for more 'killing' updates!
