After showing massive growth on Saturday and Sunday, Irrfan Khan's Hindi Medium witnessed a drastic dip on Monday at the Chinese box office. The educational drama raked in Rs 2.92 crore yesterday and currently stands with the grand total of Rs 195.50 crore. By looking at the current scenario, we are expecting the film to achieve the Rs 200 crore mark by Thursday at the box office. Talking about the global collections, the film has already crossed the Rs 300 crore mark at the ticket windows. Interestingly, the film has crossed the worldwide figures of Bollywood biggies like Raees and Dabangg 2 at the ticket windows.
Earlier in a statement, producer Bhushan Kumar said, “There’s a unique twist in this tale. ‘Hindi Medium’ is content-driven and even though Irrfan is an internationally recognised talent, the Chinese distribution body opted for our teaser concept which shows the feet of a man, one representing poverty and the other representing material wealth.” Backed by T-Series and Maddock Films, Hindi Medium released in China on Wednesday. It took in $3.68 million on its opening day, emerging as the second biggest Bollywood opener thereafter Aamir’s Secret Superstar. A quirky social comment on the education system, Hindi Medium is directed by Saket Chaudhary.
After Secret Superstar and Bajrangi Bhaijaan this is the third Bollywood film which has released in China in 2018. Talking about the plot of the film, Hindi Medium is the story of a couple from Delhi who desperately try to get their daughter into the most prestigious school of their city, so that they are accepted by the elite population of their area. The film also stars Deepak Dobriyal, Tilottama Shome, Neha Dhupia and Amrita Singh in pivotal roles.
