After enjoying a phenomenal extended opening weekend, Irrfan Khan and Saba Qamar starrer Hindi Medium witnessed a massive dip on its tenth day at the Chinese box office. The social drama raked in Rs 3.87 crore yesterday and now stands with the grand total of Rs 174.78 crore. By looking at the current scenario, we are expecting the film to cross Rs 180 crore by Sunday.
Earlier in a statement, producer Bhushan Kumar said, “There’s a unique twist in this tale. ‘Hindi Medium’ is content-driven and even though Irrfan is an internationally recognised talent, the Chinese distribution body opted for our teaser concept which shows the feet of a man, one representing poverty and the other representing material wealth.” Backed by T-Series and Maddock Films, Hindi Medium released in China on Wednesday. It took in $3.68 million on its opening day, emerging as the second biggest Bollywood opener thereafter Aamir’s Secret Superstar. A quirky social comment on the education system, Hindi Medium is directed by Saket Chaudhary.
After Secret Superstar and Bajrangi Bhaijaan this is the third Bollywood film which, has released in China in 2018. Talking about film’s success he further said, “Whether it is the success of ‘Hindi Medium’ in China or ‘Raid’ doing such phenomenal business here, it only reinforces our belief that a good story is what connects with the audience. For us, the key decisions have been to pick stories that have a universal appeal. These are the fruits of those decisions and we are overwhelmed.” Anyway, do you guys think, the film will beat Salman Khan’s Bajrangi Bhaijaan in China?
