Dhanush's Kaaka Muttai has been in limelight ever since last year when it got rave reviews at Toronto International Film Festival. Now, after winning two National Awards for the best children’s film and best child actors (Ramesh Thilaganathan and J. Vignesh), Kaaka Muttai has finally opened for the audience to see.
And from what we hear, the film has received a terrific opening at box office. Despite the lack of stars in the film, there has been approximately 85% occupancy in all cinemas in Tamil Nadu and the film has managed to rake in Rs 90 lakhs on the opening day. Kaaka Muttai’ is a quirky comedy with a strong social message. The film is about the adventures of two street kids for their first bite of pizza, two carefree slum boys are consumed by the desire to taste this new-fangled dish called ‘pizza’. Realizing that one pizza costs more than their family’s monthly income, they begin to plan ways to earn more money – inadvertently setting in motion an adventure that will involve the entire city.
Dhanush, who has produced the film, is said to be ecstatic with the film's performance. Will Kaaka Muttai bring change in the way films are made and stories are told in Tamil cinema? Lets wait and watch.
