While we saw the delay of Hindi releases due to the shut down of cinema halls in Maharashtra, two big south releases Pawan Kalyan's Vakeel Saab (Telugu) and Dhanush's Karnan (Tamil) released yesterday at the box office. The arrival of these two films has given a much needed boost to the entertainment industry as both the movies have garnered thunderous response from the audience. While Vakeel Saab gave Power Star his biggest opener even Dhanush got career best opening with Mari Selvaraj's film as it grossed Rs 10.50 crore on its first day at the ticket windows.
Despite the 50 per cent capacity, Karnan has managed to get great footfalls and has even managed collect well in tier 2 and tier 3 cities. The action-drama has surpassed the business of Vada Chennai (Rs 6.75 crore) and Pataas (Rs 6.50 crore) to become the biggest grosser of Dhanush. It has also beaten the collections of Karthi-Rashmika Mandanna's Sulthan to emerge as the second highest day grosser Tamil film of the year after Thalapathy Vijay-Vijay Sethupathi's Master. While the film will witness a huge drop today and tomorrow due to the government restrictions in Tamil Nadu, we are sure it will put up a healthy total in its opening weekend.
Karnan also features Lal Paul, Yogi Babu, Natarajan Subramaniam, Gouri G Kishan and Lakshmi Priyaa Chandramouli in pivotal roles. It marks the Kollywood debut of Mollywood actress Rajisha Vijayan. The film is produced by Kalaipuli S Thanu under V Creations. While Santhosh Narayanan has composed the music of the film, Theri Eswar has cranked the camera. The distribution rights of the film is bagged by Zee Studios. So, are you planning to watch this film in the cinema halls? Tweet and let us know @bollywood_life.
