Akshay Kumar and Radhika Apte's Pad Man has managed to remain steady in the weekdays but on the lower side. The film is facing stiff competition from Aiyaary and Hollywood film Black Panther apart from holdover release Padmaavat, which is still going strong at the box office. The biographical social drama raked in Rs 1.25 crore yesterday and now stands with the grand total of Rs 74.65 crore. Trade analyst Taran Adarsh shared the collections on his Twitter account, "#PadMan [Week 2] Fri 2.10 cr, Sat 3.15 cr, Sun 3.78 cr, Mon 1.50 cr, Tue 1.25 cr. Total: ₹ 74.65 cr. India biz."
By looking at the current scenario, Pad Man is expected to earn around Rs 85 crore at the domestic market by the end of its third weekend. Apart from the lead cast, the film also features Sonam Kapoor in a key role with a cameo of Amitabh Bachchan. The film is directed by R Balki, who previously helmed films like Paa, Cheeni Kum, Ki and Ka and Shamitabh. Since Welcome to New York and Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety is arriving this Friday, Pad Man will face a huge screen crunch at the ticket window.
Unlike Akshay Kumar’s other films, Pad Man has a very niche appeal due to its unconventional subject and plot. Talking about the film, it is based on the life of Tamil Nadu-based social activist, Arunachalam Muruganantham. Akshay Kumar portrays the central role in the film, who finds a way to make cheap, affordable sanitary napkins for the women in his village. Looking at the scenario, it seems Pad Man will struggle to enter the Rs 100 crore club at the ticket window. What do you think? Share your thoughts in the comment below…
