Akshay Kumar and Radhika Apte's Pad Man showed upward trend on its first Tuesday due to the partial holiday of Maha Shivratri. As per the early estimates, the biographical social drama raked in around Rs 6.25 crore and now stands with the grand total of Rs 51.17 crore at the box office. Pad Man will also earn well today since Maha Shivratri is still celebrated in some of the states, Valentine's day will also help the film to boost the business, as all the couples generally prefer watching movies on this day.
Since Aiyaary is releasing the Friday, Pad Man needs to hold well in the weekdays as it will face a huge screen crunch from Friday. Talking about the film, it is based on the life of Tamil Nadu-based social activist, Arunachalam Muruganantham. Akshay Kumar portrays the central role in the film, who finds a way to make cheap, affordable sanitary napkins for the women in his village. It also features Sonam Kapoor in a pivotal role with a cameo of Amitabh Bachchan. The film is directed by R Balki, who previously helmed films like Ki And Ka, Shamitabh, Paa and Cheeni Kum.
Despite being an Akshay Kumar film, the film has underperformed at the box office due to its limited appeal and unconventional subject, which has definitely taken out film's major chunk (single screens and mass centres). Pad Man is also facing stiff competition from Padmaavat since the film is still going pretty strong at the box office. Looking at the scenario, it seems Pad Man will struggle to enter the Rs 100 crore club at the ticket window. What do you think? Share your thoughts in the comment below...
