Despite the release of Akshay Kumar's Pad Man, Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Padmaavat has managed to perform exceptionally at the box office. As per the early estimates, the costume drama raked in Rs 8 crore yesterday and now stands with the grand total of Rs 253.80 crore. Looking at the current scenario, we are expecting the film to earn around Rs 265 crore. Padmaavat is currently the eighth highest grosser of all time after Baahubali 2, Dangal, PK, Tiger Zinda Hai, Bajrangi Bhaijaan, Sultan and Dhoom 3. The weekdays will be crucial for Padmaavat as it'll give us the clear idea about film's lifetime business.
The Ranveer Singh, Shahid Kapoor and Deepika Padukone starrer has turned out to be the highest grossers for its lead actors along with director Sanjay Leela Bhansali. The film was made on the lavish budget of Rs 180 crore including promotion and advertising. The makers also spent Rs 20 crore later to convert the film's print into IMAX and 3D formats. Apart from the lead actors, Padmaavat also features Raza Murad, Jim Sarbh, Aditi Rao Hydari and Anupriya Goenka in pivotal roles.
The story of Padmaavat revolves around menacing Sultan of Delhi Alauddin Khilji, who wishes to conquer the queen of Chittorgarh Rani Padmavati. Padmaavat marks the third collaboration between director Sanjay Leela Bhansali and actors Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone after Bajirao Mastani and Ram-Leela. Despite not releasing in the key states like Bihar, Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat, Padmaavat has set new benchmarks at the box office. The makers of the film have already recovered a good amount of chunk by selling satellite, streaming and audio rights. Anyway, do you think the film will enter the Rs 300 crore club?
