Contrary to early estimates, the film has managed to get a decent opening
Phantom, starring Katrina Kaif and Saif Ali Khan, opened to an average start yesterday morning. But, it seems that the film picked up in the evening/nights shows. We had earlier revealed that the film was expected to earn about Rs 6 crore on day 1, however with the increase in occupancy in the evening shows, the film earned Rs 8.46 crores on Friday. The pan-India occupancy was dwindling between 30-40 per cent till the evening, however it seems that the occupancy was nearly 50-60 per cent in the evening and late night shows. As Trade Analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted:
But, it is no where near to Ek Tha Tiger's first day collection. Though Phantom is of the same genre as Ek Tha Tiger and it also a Kabir Khan and Katrina Kaif flick, we think a certain Salman Khan is being missed. However, with the onset of weekend and the festive mood of Rakshabandhan, we may see a rise in Phantom's box office figures. We hope that Phantom
picks up on Saturday and Sunday, but with mixed crowd reactions we are unsure of a big jump in collections tomorrow.
