While Tanu Weds Manu Returns is faring well at the box office, Piku has also continued to pull in crowd to the cinema halls...
Shoojit Sircar's family drama Piku starring Deepika Padukone, Amitabh Bachchan and Irrfan Khan has had a golden run at the box office. In fact, the film is still doing good business at the ticket windows. Piku which released on May 15 has already raked in Rs 74.33 crore at the Indian box office and if it continues to attract movie goers than it won't be long before it crosses the Rs 100 crore mark domestically. Film critic and trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted the updated figures a while back. He wrote on popular social networking site Twitter, "#Piku [Week 3] Fri 1.35 cr, Sat 2.40 cr, Sun 2.75 cr, Mon 92 lacs, Tue 85 lacs, Wed 84 lacs. Grand total - 74.33 cr. India biz. SUPER HIT."
Well, not too long ago, Dippy and Big B starrer entered the Rs 100 crore club worldwide. Yes, Piku has fared equally well in the international markets too. Till May 25th, the overseas box office collection of the film stood at Rs 34 crore which is mighty impressive considering Piku is a small budget flick and wasn't even promoted on a wide scale.
Coming to Kangana Ranaut's Tanu Weds Manu Returns which released last Friday, well, this romantic comedy has also got cash resisters jingling in India and abroad as well. In just six days, the film has earned Rs 62.95 crore at the domestic turf. What's more is that the film's worldwide collection already stands at Rs 84.95 crore!
With Deepika and Kangana ruling the box office, all we can say is - cheers to women power!
