Rajinikanth and Akshay Kumar starrer 2.0, which released last weekend at the Chinese box office has failed to create impact at the ticket windows. The sci-fi action-adventure film merely raked in Rs 17.70 crore in its opening weekend and seems that 2.0 didn't impress the audience with its VFX, visuals and plot. Looking at the current scenario, we are expecting that 2.0 will turn to be an one-week affair in China.
A sequel to Shankar's 2010 blockbuster Enthiran, 2.0 has been produced by Lyca Productions and was released in Tamil, Telugu and Hindi on November 29. The film, which features Rajinikanth in three different 'avatars', also stars Amy Jackson, Adil Hussain and Sudhanshu Pandey. Akshay Kumar, making his southern debut, plays the antagonist. The film has been made on a budget of Rs 600 crore.
In the film, Rajinikanth plays a scientist and a robot. At the trailer launch of the film, Shankar raved about Rajinikanth's commitment. "When we were all set to shoot the climax in a stadium in Delhi, Rajini Sir fell ill. Six months of planning had gone into the preparation of the climax which was supposed to be shot in 40 days. Despite his bad health, Rajini Sir insisted that we go ahead with the shoot," Shankar said. "We shot in an extremely hot temperature. Rajini Sir had to shoot wearing 12 kg robotic suit. We were stunned by his commitment," he added. The film is currently the fourth-highest worldwide grossing Indian film after Dangal, Baahubali 2 and Secret Superstar.
Meanwhile, Rajinikanth will be next seen in Darbar, which is set to hit the screens in 2020. Directed by Sarkar and Ghajini helmer AR Murugadoss, it also stars Nayanthara and Prateik Babbar in key roles. Anyway, what's your thought 2.0 dismal performance in China? Tweet to us @bollywood_life.
