2018 is turning out to be an incredible year for Bollywood. The most refreshing change that Bollywood has witnessed is that the prestigious Rs 300 crore club is not limited to the Khans anymore. 'Club' is a term used for movies that cross the Rs 300 crore mark, BTW, and not an actual club. Before 2018, only Aamir Khan and Salman Khan movies were able to earn that staggering amount of money. But as 2018 knocked on our doors, Deepika Padukone-Ranveer Singh's Padmaavat became the first non-Khan film to rake in those million bucks. Today, Ranbir Kapoor's Sanju has also minted Rs 300 crore at the box office.
Ranbir Kapoor's Sanju is directed by Rajkumar Hirani, who already has PK in the list of Rs 300 crore churner movies. The movie is based on the life of controversial Bollywood actor, Sanjay Dutt and also stars Manisha Koirala, Paresh Rawal, Jim Sarbh, Anushka Sharma, Sonam Kapoor, etc in key roles.
Other movies that are there in the Rs 300 crore club are:
Aamir Khan's PK (2014)
Salman Khan's Bajrangi Bhaijaan (2015)
Salman Khan's Sultan (2016)
Aamir Khan's Dangal (2016)
Salman Khan's Tiger Zinda Hai (2017)
Ranveer Singh-Deepika Padukone's Padmaavat (2018)
Ranbir Kapoor's Sanju (2018)
Also, we need to mention that there is an 8th movie in the Rs 300 crore club. Prabhas' Baahubali 2: The Conclusion was able to mint Rs 500 crore at the box office. But since it was a Hindi dubbed version of a Tamil film, it is only ranked amongst the Rs 300 crore club movies of all time. We hope to see Bollywood proper like this so that we get to see quality content in the future as well. Maybe, if all movies start minting Rs 500 crore at the box office and we get brilliantly executed cinematic adventures like Baahubali 2 more often.
In the coming year, we have movies like Shah Rukh Khan's Zero, which we would love to enter the prestigious 300 crore club as the actor's first.
