With Gold and Satyameva Jayate hitting the screens on Independence Day, we witnessed one of the biggest clashes of Bollywood so far. But surprisingly, both the films performed well. Not just that, the two films also achieved milestones for their respective lead stars. Just like Sholay-Jai Santoshi Maa and Lagaan-Gadar, the clash between Gold and Satyameva Jayate has sent the cash registers ringing. Now let's look at the solo collections of both the Bollywood biggies.
Starting with Gold, the historical sports drama took a humongous start with a collection of Rs 25.25 crore on its first day. With this figure, it turned out to be the biggest opener of Akshay Kumar till date. The positive word of mouth helped the film to stay smooth in the extended weekend, and it resulted in a staggering collection of Rs 70 crore in 5 days. Gold is directed by Talaash helmer Reema Kagti and produced by Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani under the banner of Excel Entertainment. It also stars Mouni Roy, Kunal Kapoor, Amit Sadh, Vineet Kumar Singh and Sunny Kaushal in key roles.
Coming to Satyameva Jayate, the commercial masala entertainer also gave John Abraham his biggest opener with a collection of Rs 20.52 crore on Day 1. Despite getting negative reviews from critics, it received a thumbs up from the moviegoers especially from the single screen audience. The film raked in Rs 60 crore in its extended opening weekend, which is great since it's facing a stiff competition from Gold. Also featuring Manoj Bajpayee, Aisha Sharma and Amruta Khanvilkar, the film is directed by Milap Milan Zaveri.
By looking at the current scenario, we are expecting both the films to enter the Rs 100 crore club at the box office. What do you think? Tweet to us @bollywood_life and let us know!
