Salman Khan's Tubelight was one of the most anticipated films of the year and looks like it has started off on a decent note. The film released today (June 23) in 4350 screens across India with an opening occupancy of nearly 40-50 per cent during the morning shows at the domestic box office. Several theatres in the metropolitan and tier I and II cities even opened to housefull shows too. With Tubelight being Salman's first release in a year, that too on Eid, we always expected the film to start off well. However, it hasn't opened as well as we expected it to. As the owner of G7 Cinemas and trade analyst, Manoj Desai mentioned to us exclusively, "Tubelight has started off well. The shows are not housefull, but it is decent. It is not like other Eid releases, but with Eid on Monday, I guess it will grow later on."
With a good buzz and a considerable screen space, we expected Tubelight to start with an occupancy of nearly 80-90 per cent. However, we still expect the movie to grow over the day and rake in the moolah over the first weekend. According to trade analyst and industry tracker - Ramesh Bala, the movie can easily collect more than Rs 100 crore in the first three days. With Eid on Monday, expect the day four and five collections to be high too. With an extended run and a good word of mouth publicity, the movie can easily make Rs 200-300 crore at the box office. However, Bala expects it to rake in even more. As he mentioned on Twitter, "@BeingSalmanKhan's #Tubelight is expected to take Rs 100+ crore Opening for the 1st weekend and Lifetime Biz of Rs 350+ crore Nett in #India." For those of you who don't know, Tubelight is the story of two brothers (Salman and Sohail) separated by fate only to be later reconciled by the power of belief. The movie is set against the backdrop of the 1962 Indo-China war and we see a lot of action and emotional scenes in it. And while the plot sounds interesting, Tubelight has got mixed reviews. But with Salman's class act and a wonderful message that is being given out, Tubelight is worth watching. As our film critic, Tushar P Joshi, mentioned in his review, "Tubelight has a message that resonates with current times – keep the faith and believe in the good. Salman’s sincere and heartfelt performance in the film will definitely move you. Keep that box of tissues handy!"
