The film has a disappointing weekend at the box office...
Shaandaar, starring Alia Bhatt and Shahid Kapoor, had a huge buzz around the film but it did not turn out to be as shaandaar as it promised. A lot was expected of the film and while it started off very well on Dussera (Thursday), it dipped very badly over the weekend.
Thursday, being a holiday, was beneficial for the film as it collected Rs 13.10 crore. However, it dipped from Friday when it collected only Rs. 7. 55 crore. Then on Saturday, the film collected Rs. 6.75 crore and while it was expected that Shaandaar would recover on Sunday, it dipped further and made Rs. 6.11 crore only. Now, Shaandaar's total tally after 4 days is just Rs. 33.51 crore.
Everyone in the trade expected the film to open well and be the second highest opener of the year, however they have been disappointed by the film. As trade analyst Taran Adarsh revealed, "#Shaandaar Thu 13.10 cr [holiday], Fri 7.55 cr, Sat 6.75 cr, Sun 6.11 cr. Total: Rs. 33.51 cr. India biz. DISAPPOINTING!"
Even exhibitor and distributor Akshaye Rathi expressed the same emotions as he stated, "The film dipped again on Saturday and Sunday. We expected the film to pick up on Sunday, but the India-South Africa match hampered it. With no other big release, we expect the film to pick up this week and have a better run over the week."
The film has a good collection of songs, but neither the critics nor the viewers have liked the film. So we aren't sure if the film will pick up this week or not! Thankfully there isn't a big release till November 12 when Prem Ratan Dhan Payo releases, so we guess Shaandaar will be in the green till then.
