Shraddha Kapoor, Farhan Akhtar and Arjun Rampal's Rock On 2 released today and while everyone was excited for the film, looks like the movie hasn't lived up to everyone's expectations. Rock On 2 is the sequel to the 2008 hit film - Rock On!! Everybody thought the music, story line and direction would be like the first one. However, it is not the case. The promos itself weren't that promising, but everyone hoped that the end product would be good. However, that wasn't the case again. The audience as well as the critics slammed the movie for lacking the 'MAGIK' of its prequel. The morning shows had opened to an average 15-20 per cent occupancy, however by the evening Rock On 2 has crashed. This was partly coz of the poor content and partly coz of the effect of demonetisation of the Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes.
We had spoken to our trade expert - Akshaye Rathi (exhibitor and distributor) in the first half of the day and he revealed to us that Rock On 2 had started on a lukewarm note and he expected the movie to see a growth by the evening. Talking to us EXCLUSIVELY, Akshaye mentioned, "The opening pan India is lukewarm. It’s a bit due to demonetisation and whole lot of other things also but in the Urban centres it is fairly good. It’s fairly decent. The opening is 15-20 percent on an average. We are hoping it picks up in the evening shows." However, by the end of the afternoon, Rock On 2 had actually seen a dip in occupancy. In fact, Chaar Sahibzaade 2, which had lesser number of screens than the former, was doing better. As Akshaye told us in the evening, "Chaar Sahibzaade 2 has much, much better occupancy levels than Rock On 2. The number of screens that the movie has is lesser, but the occupancy level for Chaar Sahibzaade 2 is better. Rock On 2 has had an occupancy of 10 per cent pan India throughout the day, while Chaar Sahibzaade 2 has had an occupancy of 20-25 per cent. In Punjab, the occupancy has been nearly 40 per cent but that was expected. Rock On 2 has 1750 screens currently, while Chaar Sahibzaade 2 has 800 screens. However, as you can see the latter has more than double the occupancy. So more or less, the collections for both the films will be at par, say about Rs 2-2.50 crore for both the movies." Just imagine, if dipping from 20 per cent to 10 per cent occupancy wasn't terrible enough, Rock On 2 was doing worse than Chaar Sahibzaade 2 too! It's a disastrous opening for Rock On 2. Isn't it? But that's not it. Catastrophe has struck as we hear reports of the film's occupancy dipping to 5-10 per cent in the evening and late night shows (as reported by DNA). Tragic, isn't it?
