This week's new releases Paltan and Laila Majnu could not stop Rajkummar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor starrer Stree from continuing its successful run at the box office. The horror-comedy has exceeded all expectations and turned out to be a huge money-spinner. In its opening week, the film raked in Rs 60.39 crore, which is quite a feat as it had no big name associated with it. On it's eight day, the film has collected a total of Rs 64.78 crore. One can say it's the strong content of the film that has attracted the audience to the cinema halls.
Despite the favourable response, the audience doesn't seem to like the climax of Stree. In an exclusive conversation, producer Dinesh Vijan spoke about it. "It teases them, a little bit. The whole idea is that of a franchise. It's setting up the second part. The sequel will answer all the questions. I understand the grouse, but it was intentional. We will make it up to you in the second one. Generally what happens in India is when a film works, you plan a sequel or a prequel. This was set up as that! I am happy that there is a bit of a grouse there because it's intentional. You will come back to see if everything is answered correctly. The idea is to leave questions in your mind," he said. The film is expected to continue its phenomenal run in its second week. Trade predicts it might cross Rs 75 crore on Sunday. Directed by Amar Kaushik, the film also features Abhishek Banerjee, Aparshakti Khurana and Pankaj Tripathi in pivotal roles.
