And it's a huge victory for Thalapathy Vijay's Bigil as it trumped Thala Ajith's Viswasam to become the highest grosser of all-time at the Tamil Nadu box office. The sports drama raked in approximately Rs 114 crore (gross Rs 135 crore) to dethrone Thala Ajith's Viswasam which collected Rs 112 crore (gross Rs 132 crore) in its theatrical run. Baahubali 2 is way ahead of Bigil as it collected Rs 158 crore (gross) but since it was a dubbed film, we can't take it in the list of highest-grossing Tamil films. Bigil is ending its theatrical run and will add another in its kitty at the ticket windows.
Produced by AGS Entertainment on a whopping budget of Rs. 180 crore, Bigil has been dubbed in Telugu as Whistle. Bigil, which also stars Jackie Shroff, Nayanthara, Kathir, Yogi Babu, and Vivek in crucial roles, features Vijay in dual roles of a father and son. As the father, Vijay is seen in a gangster avatar, while he plays the coach of a women's football team as the son. The makers spent Rs 6 crore just to erect a football stadium for a pivotal sequence.

The interval sequence of Bigil has been loved by the audience and interestingly, it is also Atlee's favourite scene in the film. He recently said that, “The railway scene towards the interval is my favourite bit of the film.” He also said that earlier Vetrimaaran character from Mersal was his favourite but now Rayyapan from Bigil has overtaken it. “Even you guys will like Rayyappan the most among the characters.” He also praised Vijay and quoted, that he is a "true human being who gives love and no hatred." When asked about working with Shah Rukh Khan, Atlee addressed, “I have a huge amount of love and respect for #SRK sir and he also loves my work. Soon, hopefully, we will do something about it.”
