When we gave you the occupancy report for this week's releases, we knew The Nun was going to make waves. The American gothic supernatural horror film started off strong at the box office and performed better than two Bollywood releases Paltan and Laila Majnu. After receiving rave reviews from the critics, the film received a good number of footfalls on the opening day and its collection on day 1 was Rs 8 crore nett all over India. The Nun is the fifth film in the Conjuring series and its goodwill too worked in its favour.
Set in the 1950s in a Romanian monastery, The Nun features the demonic Nun who haunted Lorraine Warren (played by Vera Farmiga) in Conjuring 2. Father Anthony Burke (Demian Bichir) is the Vatican's go-to person when it comes to "miracle hunting". He, along with a young novitiate Sister Irene (Taissa Farmiga), are sent to the Abbey of St Carta in Romania to investigate the incident of a young nun who seemingly committed suicide by hanging herself. Helping them is a French-Canadian farmer (Jonas Bloquet) who discovers the body. The film has been directed by Corin Hardy. It has been dubbed in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu.
