Apart from the general audience, Diwali is also one of the favourite festivals of filmmakers as they love to release their big-ticket films during this festive weekend and capitalise on the national holidays. This year we have three films - Housefull 4, Saand Ki Aankh and Made In China as Diwali releases and we hope that all three turned out to be hits. From the past one decade we have witnessed how most mega-budget ventures have turned out to be money-spinners courtesy the national holiday and extended Diwali weekends. So, for you, we have shortlisted some of the biggest Bollywood blockbusters, which turned out to be firecrackers during the festival of lights. Here they are...

Krrish 3 - Rs 240 crore

Hrithik Roshan and Priyanka Chopra starrer Krrish 3 was one of the most anticipated films of 2013 and due to its humongous buzz, it opened to mind-boggling numbers at the box office. The superhero venture raked in Rs 240 crore and is still the biggest Diwali hit of all-time.

Prem Ratan Dhan Payo - Rs 208 crore

After the success of Maine Pyaar Kiya, Hum Aapke Hain Koun and Hum Saath Saath Hain, filmmaker Sooraj Barjatya collaborated with Salman Khan for Prem Ratan Dhan Payo. The superstardom of Bhaijaan and the family appeal turned out to be a Diwali treat for the fans.

Golmaal Again - Rs 206 crore

The blockbuster jodi of actor Ajay Devgn and director Rohit Shetty delivered the Diwali blockbuster in 2017 in the form of Golmaal Again. Despite facing competition from Secret Superstar, the horror-comedy stood out a clear winner and is still Ajay Devgn's biggest hit.

Happy New Year - Rs 205 crore

Farah Khan's multi-starrer directorial venture Happy New Year featuring Shah Rukh Khan, Deepika Padukone and Abhishek Bachchan opened to mammoth collections of Rs s 44.97 crore on its first day. After such an opening, we were expecting the film to cross the Rs 250 crore mark but negative reviews and word-of-mouth hampered collections.

Jab Tak Hai Jaan - Rs 120.35 crore

The last directorial film of legendary filmmaker Yash Chopra featured SRK, Anushka Sharma and Katrina Kaif. The romantic drama received immense love from the viewers and was a box office success.

Ae Dil Hai Mushkil - 112.48 crore

Ranbir Kapoor, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Anushka Sharma's Ae Dil Hai Mushkil released during Diwali 2016 and despite clashing with Shivaay, the romantic drama turned out to be a profitable affair.

Son of Sardaar - Rs 105.03 crore

Ajay Devgn and Sanjay Dutt starrer Son of Sardaar was comic relief for all the viewers and with solid collections, at the box office it brought a smile on the face of the makers as well.

Shivaay - Rs 100.33 crore

The directorial venture of Ajay Devgn took a good start at the box office but due to mixed-reviews, it underperformed later. Though it managed to be a decent success at the ticket windows.
