Though this week's three releases are distinctly different from each other in terms of genre, they lack star power and promotions. The trade foresees another dull week for Bollywood
While discussing five movies – Issaq, Nasha, Bajatey Raho, Luv U Soniyo and Wolverine 3D - that released last Friday and their potential at the ticket counters, trade analyst Taran Adarsh rightly wrote, “What a royal mess it has turned out to be! Does it make business sense? We don’t witness so many films during Diwali, Eid or Christmas, so why now? What was so special about this week?”
And he wonders again: “This week again has a number of films slated for release, but how many films will eventually make it to theatres this Friday, let’s wait and watch.” Of the three movies releasing this Friday, Arshad Warsi starrer Rabba Main Kya Karoon rides on his name and nothing else; Prague starring Chandan Roy Sanyal is a psychological thriller that looks promising; Shilpa Shukla’s B.A. Pass is a dark subject and an erotic drama featuring explicit scenes that will limit family audiences. Like last week, people have different films to watch, but who will spend Rs 100 or more to do so?
Exhibitor-distributor Akshaye Rathi feels, “With due respect to the efforts of the makers of all the three films releasing, I expect the week to be dominated by Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, Wolverine and the other releases that have been running at the cinemas already. None of the three films is carrying buzz that can create a significant impact at the BO. Besides, it’s the last week of Ramzan, which has a huge negative impact on the prospects of films.”
We aren’t surprised, considering some trade experts refused to even comment on the fate of these films, saying 'Chod na, yaar!' Need we say more?
