Despite of releasing a day later than its slated release date, Kamal Haasan's flick has taken over the box office by a storm
After crossing umpteen hurdles, Kamal Haasan's magnum opus Uttama Villain finally hit the screens on May 2. Directed by Ramesh Arvind, the film stars Kamal Haasan, Andrea Jermiah, Pooja Kumar, Urvashi, Jayaram, K Vishwanath, MS Bhaskar and K Balachander.
The film had faced several protest from VHP, who alleged that film would hurt the religious sentiments of Hindus. Later just ahead of the release, Uttama Villain ran into trouble due to differences between the producers and financiers. After stalling the release on May 1, Uttama Villain saw the light on May 2 and took the box office by storm.
According to the trade pandits, Uttama Villain has managed to mint Rs 13.8 crores world wide in just two days. In US box office, the Kamal Haasan starrer is going steady as it raked $384K in the opening weekend. The film has opened to positive reviews from critics and fans, and has left its competitor Vai Raja Vai behind by some distance.
A source revealed," Uttama villain has done really well despite it releasing a day after it was initially supposed to be. Distributors have faced immense losses due to this one day delay, but once the movie finally released on saturday, it has moved to earn 13.08 crores, and this figure covers up for all the losses on Friday."
With Simbu's long delayed Vaalu hitting screens next week, we will have to see how does Kamal Haasan's Uttama Villain holds up at the box office.
