Director Shoojit Sircar's October is doing fair business at the global box office. Despite having a limited appeal the film is performing well especially in the multiplexes of the metro cities. Till now, October has grossed Rs 54.37 crore (nett Rs 41.83 crore) in India and Rs 8.50 crore in the international markets. The film now stands with the grand total of Rs 62.87 crore at the global market. Considering the budget of the film, October has already turned out to be a profitable affair for its makers.
Explaining the idea of the thought of the film, director Shoojit Sircar had said, “It’s again an out-of-the-box kind of story. we started working on this film’s idea, which came from a small newspaper clipping, right before Piku (2015).” He further described it as “a very unusual, unconventional kind of a story” in the “slice-of-life and romance space”. The director, who has delivered films like Vicky Donor, Yahan, Madras Cafe has always entertained us with his unique plots and amazing execution and October is just the extension of that.
The film is written by Juhi Chaturvedi and presented under the banner of Rising Sun Films. Since Avengers: Infinity War is arriving tomorrow, October will face a huge screen crunch at the box office. Apart from Varun, the film also features debutant Banita Sandhu and Gitanjali Rao in key roles. October is a very special film for Varun and he has said this many times during the promotion. During the screening on its opening day, the actor said, “October comes from an extremely special place from my heart because as my career forwarded, I just felt that I started becoming more selfish and I wanted to do a selfless character like Dan.”
