AMRISH PURI

Biography : The Mogambo of Indian cinema started his acting career with the theatre. He worked with playwright Stayadev Dubey. His theatre work was recognized and he started getting movie offers. He is most remembered as playing the legendary villain Mogambo in Mr. India. His baritone voice and his towering personality set him apart from the bevy of bad guys. He also had the opportunity to work in Steven Spielberg's Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom and Richard Attenborough's Gandhi. Some of the movies which earned him awards or nominations are Meri Jung, Suraj Ka Satvan Ghoda, Ghatak, Virasat, Tridev, Gardish, Karan Arjun, Koyla, Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge, Baahshah and Gadar: Ek Prem Katha. Through his filmi career (which started at the age of 40) he has worked in over 400 movies and in several languages. He passed away at the age of 72.
