This actor/politician from Karnataka is considered one of the most iconic figures in Kannada cinema. He made his debut with the Kannada film Hamsageethe directed by the noted director G.V. Iyer. The movie received critical acclaim. Anant Nag’s knowledge of a number of languages and his dialogue delivery with a touch of the local accent gave him an edge over the other actors and made him an instant favourite. His pairing with actress Lakshmi was an all-time favourite and together they did 25 films including Chandanada Gombe, Naa Ninna Bidaalare, Benkiya Bale, Ibbani Karagitu, Makkaliralavva Mane Thumba, Mududida Taavare Aralitu, Nodi Swamy Naavirodu Heege and Amma. Some of his other movies include Anahat, Ganeshana Maduve, Gauri Ganesha, Udbava, Undoohoda Konduhoda, Beladingala Baale, Hasyaratna Ramakrishna, Yarigu Helbedi and Dairya Lakshmi. He has also acted in Malgudi Days (based on short stories by R.K. Narayan), directed by his younger brother Shankar Nag. He has received the Karnataka State Film Awards and Filmfare awards for his contribution to cinema.
