Kareena Kapoor born to Babita Kapoor and Randhir Kapoor celebrates her birthday on September 21, 1980. Her elder sister Karisma Kapoor reigned Bollywood during her time. She is the granddaughter of actor and filmmaker Raj Kapoor, great-granddaughter of actor Prithviraj Kapoor, and niece of actor Rishi Kapoor. As a child she studied in Jamnabai Narsee School in Mumbai, and thereafter was enrolled in Dehra Dun's prestigious Welham Girls' Boarding School. Post which, she studied commerce at Mithibai College for 2 years. She then re-located to Harvard for about 3 months to take a course in Information Technology and Microcomputers. Upon her return to India, she joined the Government Law College (GLC). However, after completing one year at GLC, she realised that she was not inclined towards academics and returned to her initial plan to become an actor. She then enrolled in the Kishore Namit Kapoor Acting School. Kareena is hugely inspired by Nargis and Meena Kumari since childhood and finally chose acting as her career. But Randhir Kapoor was not keen on the women of the family entering the film industry. These differences of opinion lead to a separation between Randhir and Babita. They reconciled years later around 2007. Till then Kareena were raised by their mother Babita. The actor was initially scheduled to make her debut in Rakesh Roshan's Kaho Naa... Pyaar Hai (2000) opposite Hrithik Roshan. Several days into the filming, however, she abandoned the project. She made her debut later that year in JP Dutta's war drama Refugee, alongside Abhishek Bachchan. Kareena’s act in Asoka as Kaurwaki—a princess of Kalinga - received her first Filmfare Best Actress nomination. During 2003-2004, Kareena had six flops back to back. It was her role in Chameli in 2007 that changed her career around. She also received her first Filmfare Award for Special Performance that year. Amitabh Bachchan starrer Dev was the first and only film Kareena ever sang for. The actor portrayed her first negative character in the film Fida. Kareena’s Jab We Met directed by Imtiaz Ali received accolades and is regarded her best work till date. Kareena's next big movie was opposite Aamir Khan in RajKumar Hirani's 3 Idiots. She was nominated in the category of Best Actress for this high grossing movie. In 2012, Kareena was seen in Ek Main Aur Ek Tu opposite Aamir's nephew Imran Khan. Post which, she signed Madhur Bhandarkar's Heroine replacing Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. The actor portrayed the role of a film star suffering from bipolar and schizophrenia. While the film was not a major success, it is regarded as one of her finest works by critics. Kareena has often been under the media scanner for her weight, diet, fashion and her relationships. The actor was seeing Shahid Kapoor for three years since Fida. She called off the relationship in 2007 and married Saif Ali Khan, now Nawab of Pataudi on October 16, 2012. The actor was last seen in Reema Kagti's Talaash starring along with Aamir Khan and Rani Mukerji. Kareena is currently shooting for Prakash Jha's political drama Satyagraha and Punit Malhotra's romantic drama Gori Tere Pyaar Mein.
