LEELA MISHRA

Biography : Leela Mishra born on January 1, 1908, was an Indian actress who worked in over 200 Hindi films for five decades. She was born in Jais, United Provinces of Agra and Oudh, British India, into a conservative zamindar family. She was married to Ram Prasad Mishra, who was a character artist, then working in silent films. They had two daughters. Leela Mishra made her film debut in 1936 with the film Dharmatma. She went on to play a variety of roles in films, including aunts, mothers, and grandmothers. She was known for her natural acting and her ability to bring a sense of warmth and authenticity to her characters. Some of Leela Mishra's most memorable films include Sholay (1975), Dil Se Mile Dil (1978), Baton Baton Mein (1979), Geet Gaata Chal (1975), Nadiya Ke Paar (1982), and Abodh (1984). She also appeared in the television series Buniyaad (1986-1987). Leela Mishra was awarded the Padma Shri in 1973 for her contributions to Indian cinema. She died of a heart attack in 1988 at the age of 80. Leela Mishra was a talented and versatile actress who left a lasting legacy on Hindi cinema. She was a master of her craft and her performances were always believable and moving. She will be remembered as one of the great character actors of Indian cinema.
