Anurag Kashyap, who celebrates his birthday today, is awaiting the release of his film, Manmarziyan, this Friday. For a filmmaker who makes dark, edgy cinema, it is indeed a refreshing change to see him come up with a romantic comedy. To know more about the film and what went into it, we met the three leads of the film - Abhishek Bachchan, Taapsee Pannu and Vicky Kaushal. And the filmmaker decided to drop in for a quick chat with his good looking cast. From complaining to Taapsee about her not-red-anymore hair to hanging out with Abhishek and Vicky, Anurag seemed very upbeat and confident about the product he has made. We spoke to his chosen three about how it was to work on a love story with a director that prides himself on making riveting thrillers and this is what they had to say…
Abhishek Bachchan, who was on a self-imposed sabbatical from films gave his nod to Anurag's Manmarziyan. So when we asked him as to what made him agree to do the film, there is no hesitation before he says, "Anurag Kashyap!" Speaking about how it was working with him on the sets, Abhishek quips, "The energy on the sets was so vivacious. We had a lot of fun. Anurag is very open to ideas and that's why it was all very exciting."
We pose the same question to the film's female lead, Taapsee Pannu, and she reaffirms the same. "I knew that it was not going to be a dark film. I was pretty sure it was going to be a colourful film. And when it comes to Anurag, he handles the grey part of the human nature very well. He doesn't want a person to sound totally nasty and bad but neither does he want them to be all white and clean; all of us have shades of grey." However that didn't stop her from giving him a piece of advice. "I used to tell him everyday: UA and Rs 100 crore. Let's put some lights because I don't want the audience to get torches from home to know who's on screen," reveals Taapsee, rather candidly. Woah, this sure sounds like a lot of fun!
Vicky, who plays his namesake in the film, however, has had worked with Anurag earlier as well. Ask him about the change that he has noticed in him, as a filmmaker, when he is working on a romance and Vicky says, "See, with Anurag sir, what works for him and against him is that you cannot take the filmmaker out of him, nor can you remove the person he is - they aren't two seperate entities. He has so much insight; films are his world. So, what he is going through in his real-life shows in his films. The phase he is going through comes as a shade in his films. In Manmarziyan, I had never seen him so happy! And when he is the most happy, he cracks the worst jokes. So, whenever a new song was recorded and he heard it, he used to dance on the sets. I even told him, that the last time I had seen him so happy was on the sets of Wasseypur. He was just enjoying, not worrying about how the film is turning out to be, just coming on the sets everyday to do what he does best!" Well, that sums as to why the director seems so confident of the film he has made.
And on that note, we would like to wish Anurag Kashyap a very happy birthday too!
