The Marathi film, to release with English subtitles, has been in the news for its story and cinematography
After Riteish Deshmukh's Marathi film Balak Palak received a decent response from audiences, comes another interesting Marathi film - Pune 52. The trailers of Pune 52 created the right buzz, including an endorsement by director Anurag Kashyap, and the movie was well received at the 14th Mumbai Film Festival last year. The detective thriller was scheduled for a December 12, 2012 release, but it is now hitting theatres on January 18, 2013, complete with English subtitles so that everyone can enjoy it.
Based in post-liberalisation 1992, Pune 52 is directed by Nikhil Mahajan. It shows the life of a private detective who gets caught up in a complex case that eventually affects his married life. The much-talked about movie toplines National Award-winning actors Girish Kulkarni and Sonali Kulkarni, and Sai Tamhankar. Others in the cast include lyricist-singer-actor Swanand Kirkire and actor Kiran Karmarkar in major roles. The film, said to be based on a detective known to Mahajan, is co-produced by Girish Kulkarni, Valu director Umesh Kulkarni, Abhay Gadgil and Shrirang Godbole.
