If you are a fan of BTS, you must have always thought how was the band formed? Well, like every other great band, even the BTS formation story is quite unconventional. South Korean pop band, BTS was formed in 2013 and their first single song was No More Dream. Within no time, BTS members including RM, Jungkook, Jimin, V, Suga, Jin, and J-Hope gained a lot of attention with their musical voices.
About a decade ago, BTS only had seven members who had a dream of making it big. Big Hit Entertainment’s arrival changed their lives forever. In 2020, BTS' Dynamite was on the Billboard Hot 100 and was followed by Savage Love (Laxed – Siren Beat) and Life Goes On. The band was nominated for the Grammy Awards in 2021 for Dynamite. Let's take a look at how the BTS members were discovered.
Kim Namjoon aka RM was the first member of BTS and is the leader of the band. Did you know RM started rapping in the sixth grade after he heard Epik High's Fly? He was later invited to audition for a hip-hop agency where he met Untouchable’s Sleepy, who made him meet with producer Bang Shi Hyuk. Bang invited him for the audition for Big Hit Entertainment and in 2010, RM became a member of BTS.
Jeon Jeongguk aka Jungkook is the youngest member of the band. He was discovered when he auditioned for the third season of Superstar K. But was unfortunately eliminated in the audition round. Jungkook chose Big Hit Entertainment to become a trainee and he was impressed with how RM won their hearts. Jungkook being part of BTS is because of RM.
Kim Taehyung aka V always wanted to be a musician and started playing the saxophone in high school. He accompanied a friend to an audition for Big Hit Entertainment and members of the agency saw him and told him to audition. Well, V got selected and the rest is now history.
Min Yoongi aka Suga started rapping under the name Gloss in high school. He started producing and composing beats for artists. He then auditioned for Big Hit Entertainment after he saw an ad for a rap competition called Hit It. Though he did not win, he grabbed the second position in the show. Suga joined BTS in 2010 and became one of the band’s rappers.
Kim Seokjin aka Jin was scouted by SM Entertainment, but he thought the offer was a scam and never followed up with the company. Once again he was scouted by Big Hit Entertainment and he auditioned to be an actor. The agency convinced him to become a trainee for BTS and now he is a vocalist.
Park Jimin aka Jimin was quite talented and his dance teacher encouraged him to audition for Big Hit Entertainment. He passed the audition and became a trainee. He debuted with the band in 2013.
Jung Hoseok aka J-Hope was a well-known dancer and auditioned for JYP Entertainment. Though he did not make it to the finale and was rejected during the audition, he chose Big Hit Entertainment. The agency saw his potential and signed him as a trainee. While he was a trainee, he and the agency parted ways. But then RM convinced the agency that their band needs J-Hope.
